In the latter half of the 19th century Wood Green was part of Tottenham. Originally virtually all woodland it was known as Tottenham Wood. Wood Green today has developed into a busy urban area with a sizeable shopping area with two cinemas, bars, nightclubs, numerous restaurants and cafes and a shopping area known as The Mall close to the tube station. The main shopping spine known as the High Road, is part of Green Lanes stretching from the Wood Green tube station to Turnpike Lane.

Russell Park (Often known as Noel Park) is located in Harringay near Wood Green and has a children's playground and grass space for multi-sport and fitness activities. There is also a small, junior grass football pitch available.
